Class Trips with a difference!

Class trips are not only restricted to arts and craft activities but other activities falling under the creative banner.

A very popular activity for high schools (senior schools) is our Afrikaans cultural day. Usually, a school will send a particular grade in batches over a number of days.

On arrival, the learners are divided into a number of teams that are then asked to compose a team song (in Afrikaans of course!) and choose a name with a team banner. The teams then compete with each other in a number of delightful activities including baking koeksisters (girls and (yes!) boys love this!), a treasure hunt boeresport including toutrek (tug-of-war).

Naturally as much Afrikaans as possible is spoken during the always remembering that these are occasions to celebrate the culture of Afrikaans rather than only opportunities to speak the language. Another class trip favourite is end of Grade 7 farewell activities. Learners leaving at the end of year for high schools have to take their leave of many friends and can celebrate this by making a memento such as photo collages of their memories of friends and school having outrageous fun build mud huts and towers turning themselves into brown slithering creatures before finally flinging themselves into the dam to wash themselves off.
