Art Workshops and Courses at Giverny

Giverny has an absolutely magnificent studio, entirely ideal for art workshops and courses. A feature of arts and craft experiences at Giverny is the opportunity to interact and share ideas and opinions with your fellow artists.




A series of creative courses and art workshops are arranged each year. These art experiences are usually over weekends.

The following are courses scheduled for the latter half of 2004


 

Creative Drawing

Friday to Sunday 24, 25 & 26 September
Presented by Hermine Spies Coleman

This course or art worhshop is aiming at achieving a creative personal style through careful observation and development of technical ability to express your personal views and emotions.

The use of different media will be explored during the course.

  • Friday morning - figure drawing with models
  • Friday afternoon - developing the morning's drawings.
  • Saturday morning - space conceptions in landscapes
  • Saturday afternoon -Drawing on outdoor locations
  • Sunday morning - Drawing your inner landscape

      The course finishes Sunday after a light lunch

      Fee: R500 includes all materials, three lunches and teas.
       

      Monotype printing

      Saturday and Sunday 9 and 10 October
      Presented by Hermine Spies Coleman

      Learn to create and superimpose images on a plate, using oil paints. These will then be printed onto paper using a small printing press. It is a very liberating and empowering course or art workshop for people who struggle with confidence in drawing and painting.

      • Saturday morning - researching and collecting visual images and dreams and demonstration of the printing process
      • Saturday afternoon - free expressing under guidance of tutor
      • Sunday continuing free expressing and motivational discussions of creative work.

      Fee: R300 includes paper and three lunches and teas.

      Bring your own oil paints or buy at the studio. (4 colours is sufficient)
       

      Expressive painting with Watercolours or Oil paint

      Monday to Thursday 1 to 4 November
      Presented by Hermine Spies Coleman

      Four days of intense painting with the aim of developing your creativity into a very personal style. General discussions and demonstrations on improving your use of colour, texture, tone and composition, will take place, as well as personal one-on-one discussions of each individual participants work.

      Fee: R500 exclude materials but include light lunches.

      You can bring your own materials or buy at the studio.

      Courses are usually over weekends but can be held during the week to suit the participants. Looking for an art holiday or art workshop? Look no further than Giverny creative country holidays.

      Art courses can also be custom designed for particular groups who can determine their own dates and course content. The minimum group size is 4 people. We plan to use our studio facilities as much as possible in future and present courses and workshops facilitated by guest presenters.       We are situated in the Midlands Meander with its myriad of quality accommodation establishments – there are several close to Giverny. At Giverny itself is the Monet Self catering Cottage, which can sleep 4.
